Many new parents and even experienced ones sometimes struggle in their effort to raise their children right. Do you encounter problems in raising your children? Do you know how to raise a children?

SEGi College at Subang Jaya will be holding a 2-day workshop: Quality Infant & Toddler Caregiving Workshop on September 26 & 27.

This workshop is about getting to know the needs of children 0-3 years so that parents and caregivers can truly ensure that the children get the best start in life. The workshop is facilitated by early childhood specialist Ms Puspa Sivan.

AIM

Quality infant and toddler programmes must stem from an understanding of their developmental needs
and an appropriate infant & toddler curriculum must support such needs. This specialized professional
workshop aims therefore to equip participants with knowledge of child development during the 0 to 3
years. This theoretical understanding is critical for the provision of responsive and positive care
giving, and lays the foundation for the design of a play environment that is respectful of the infant and
toddler development.

SPEAKER

Ms Puspa Sivan (BSc. Child Development and MEd – Special Education)

Puspa Sivan has over 30 years of experience in Early Childhood training, administration and working with parents, infants, toddlers, preschoolers and children with special needs in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and the region. She has developed and taught in the Early Childhood Education Courses (certificate to diploma) in Singapore and Indonesia and has received the prestigious ‘Academic Teaching Award’ for best teaching practices from Ngee Ann Polytechnic (Singapore). Puspa also serves as a Consultant to International Organizations, Childcare Organizations and is a frequent speaker at professional conferences and parent education talks and seminars. She is specialized in ‘Infant and Toddler Development’ and conducts regular ‘Infant and Toddler Certificate Courses and Workshops.

How infants and toddlers gain self-confidence and learn by exploring through their desired movements.

How infants and toddlers develop in an atmosphere of secure relationships that translates into self awareness and self regulation.

DAY 2: 27 September 2009 - Sunday
9.00am – 1.00pm: Understanding the Cognitive (Intellectual) & Language
Development in Infants and Toddlers
How infants and toddlers learn through the provision of a learning environment that supports the child’s construction of knowledge and growing communication abilities.
1.00pm – 2.00pm: LUNCH BREAK
2.00pm – 5.00pm: Developing the Respectful and Responsive Play and Caregiving Environment
How caregivers can offer the necessary respectful, responsive and stable care in order to foster a trusting, two-way relationship between the adult and infant.

Calling all Bumps (pregnant women or expectant mothers) and Mums!!!!

In the first weekend of April, Bangsar Village II will be hosting a fun event for you and your whole family. Informative talks, a mums-only lounge and a kids’ play area. Three key zones to entertain the whole family.

There will be twelve talks, scheduled over the two days. Pregnancy fitness expert Debbra says “The idea is to educate and raise awareness and ensure people take home something that will make a difference.”

Debbra will be presenting two talks on both Pregnancy Fitness “Exercising safely throughout your pregnancy” and Post-Natal Fitness, “How to get your body back”. Other speakers include re-known Breast Feeding expert Christine Choong and midwife Jennifer Hor who will give her views on Baby Sleep, an eternal issue for new parents.
